Oscar And The Wolf

You don’t necessarily have to live in Belgium to have heard about this band headed by singer songwriter Max Colombie. Their track Princes from the debut album, Entity was a hit all over Europe last year.

We already had an inkling of what the group had to offer before Eurosonic and a recommendation from their producer, famous British guitarist Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno, Antony and the Johnsons, Pulp) who performed with Iarla O´Lionáird in the Gong last year led us to pursue the case. And it was well worth it. Their delicate blend of electronic soul and R&B reflects Max’s idea about emotional electro dance music.

A glimpse into the front-man’s passion for painting, TV series such as True Blood and Game of Thrones, not to mention Roman Polanski films offers some insight into his preferred musical taste which also explains the contradiction in the name of the band. “Oscar is a poetic dreamer who loves life while the wolf howling at the moon is a dark loner.”

By the time we got to hear them live at Eurosonic, Oscar and the Wolf had already swept the charts in Belgium while Princes was dubbed as “electropop royalty” by the London Evening Standard. Roll on July when we get to hear them again.
